Partnerships Help Ensure Safety on Church Campuses

Every Sunday, The Potter's House, a nondenominational church founded by Bishop T.D. Jakes, leads a congregation of more than 30,000 members across its campuses in DFW, as well as an additional campus in Denver, CO.

The Potter's House has received much criticism throughout its existence and has been labelled by many as a cult. Major areas of criticism include the level of control exerted over its members, the intense level of commitment required, and the shunning and mistreatment of those who have left the church.

The cost of residents at The Potter's House is $1500 per month. We have a scholarship fund to help subsidize part or all of this for Phase one. Once residents are working, we use a sliding scale to determine monthly program fees. These could be anywhere from $500-$1500 per month.

It is located in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas right next to Dallas Baptist University. After Grant was convicted of tax evasion in 1996 he sold the facility to T. D. Jakes, a fellow televangelist, who renamed it and relaunched it as The Potter's House.

Why did TD Jakes leave Potter's house? As of 2020, T.D. Jakes is still a bishop of the church he founded – though back in 2019, he admitted that there was a point in time that he considered leaving, citing his distaste for being famous as his main reasoning.Apr 20, 2021
